See Your Dentist Before
Something really important to do when you’re travelling to protect your oral health is to see your dentist before you head off. This is especially key if you’re going away for a long time and you haven’t been to the dentist in the last 6 months. Book an appointment to see your dentist in Milton Keynes or Manchester, wherever it may be, for around 2 weeks before you head off, so that if you need any treatments before you go there is time. Even if you don’t think you have any issues, or you don’t have any symptoms like pain or bleeding, there could be something symptomless at the minute that could become painful when you’re away and disturb your time. It’s super important that you go to see your dentist before you leave just to give you that piece of mind before you leave!
Take Compact Products
The next trick to keep your oral health a priority is to take compact products away with you. Take a little toothpaste and a mini mouthwash with you, along with your full sized toothbrush. It’s definitely worth taking your full size toothbrush with you, which should be an electric one, and your charger. This might take up some space in your suitcase, but it’s so important to be able to clean your teeth properly. However, depending on how long you’re going for, you won’t need full size toothpaste and mouthwash, and this will save some good space in your toiletries bag.
Drink Plenty of Water
Another good thing to do when you’re away to look after your oral health is to drink plenty of water. You likely won’t be eating and drinking quite as normal, so you may be consuming more sugar than normal. Whilst you should be enjoying your time away without restrictions, sugar is one of the worst things for your teeth, as the residue from the sugar combines with the bacteria in your mouth to produce an acid. When this happens regularly, it breaks down the enamel on the teeth, eventually leading to issues like tooth decay and tooth loss. So, to help reduce the impact you can drink water throughout the day, to help wash away the residue until you have a chance to floss and brush properly. This definitely doesn’t replace the need to floss and brush, but instead, is a good thing to utilise to help minimise damage throughout the day.
